Abbaye-Aux-Dames (The Women’s Abbey)

Abbaye-aux-Dames

Founded around 1060 by Matilda of Flanders, Duchess of Normandy and wife of William the Conqueror, the Abbaye-aux-Dames was home to Benedictine nuns until the French Revolution. Mathilde of Flanders is buried in the choir of the abbey church. Since 1^st January 2016, the Abbaye-aux-Dames has been the headquarters of the Normandy Regional Council.

Les Journées de l'Histoire

Du 21 au 28 mars 2025, prolongeant l’inauguration du Millénaire, les Journées de l’Histoire proposent un grand événement populaire autour des temps forts de l’histoire de Caen et son territoire, du Moyen Âge à aujourd’hui.
Reconstitutions, visites guidées et théâtralisées, spectacles, animations et jeux, lectures et films, expositions, conférences et tables rondes… les Journées de l'Histoire vous invitent à voyager avec passion et curiosité dans le passé millénaire de la cité de Mathilde de Flandres et Guillaume le Conquérant. Des petits écuyers curieux aux érudits passionnés, il y en a pour tous les âges et tous les goûts.
