THE MILLENNIUM PARADE, A MAJOR POPULAR CELEBRATION IN MAY 2025
This parade will consist of a caravan, a series of 5 monumental works, and will move through five stations. Each monumental work will symbolise a period of history or a series of key events in the construction of the city and the lives of its inhabitants.
Each will be accompanied by a “poetics troupe” consisting of 100 participants from the city. These poetics troupes will be the characters in the scenography, the narrators of the story.
5 STATIONS, 5 KILOMETRES FOR 5 HOURS
The route stretches along 5 km in Caen city centre, and will highlight 5 emblematic sites in the city, known as stations, with their unique architecture, narrative or symbolic significance.
600 participants, accompanied by professionals, will bring these stations to life. Each station will have its own colour and dynamic.
THE PEOPLE OF CAEN AT THE HEART OF THE EVENT
Caennais and Caen-la-Mer residents will be invited to take an active part in the parade, to form poetics troupes, and enliven the stations.
500 poetic troupers will form the heart of this parade and 600 participants
will host and perform at the stations, for a total of 1,100 people. Creative workshops will
be organised at the Grande Halle in Colombelles for 18 months, where anyone who wants to
take part and/or find out more about the behind-the-scenes production of a large-format work will be able to do so.
The Caen-based company le Ballon Vert is in charge of producing the Millennium Parade. The entire team is based at the Grande Halle in Colombelles and is responsible for creating the show from A to Z: costumes, floats, set design, etc.
