Built around 1060 by William the Conqueror, the ducal castle is one of the largest fortified enclosures in Europe. Over the centuries, Caen Castle has been transformed into a royal fortress, a conscript barracks and now a museum campus housing the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Musée de Normandie. Before spring 2025, the interior spaces of the Château will be redeveloped to create a large city-centre park. This project’s inauguration, from 20th to 22nd March 2025, will launch the Millennium celebrations.
