365 days of keeping watch
On the Thursday 21st of March 2024, the first of the Caen Vigil took place in the shelter on the ramparts of the Castle for a timeless hour, as the sun rose.
Joël Bruneau, Mayor of Caen and President of Millénaire Caen 2025, is the first link in the human chain of watchers, who will take turns day after day, at sunrise and sunset, until the 20th of March 2025, the inauguration of the Millenium !
This choreographic performance was created by Joanne Leighton, director of the WLDN company. 13 other performances by the Vigil have taken place since 2011.
How to get involved and become a sentinel ?
Participants can choose the date and time of their watch on the dedicated website : Home | Les Veilleurs de Caen
You can select the first slot available to you, or you may wish to give a personal meaning to your participation by choosing a date that is particularly important to you. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, so we cannot guarantee that the slot you would like will be available.
Watch slots are fully booked until the 30 of June. But slots for July-August-September reopen on the Thursday 2nd of May.
You can only take part in the Caen Vigil once.
After your watch, if you want to extend the experience and get even more involved in the project, you can become a companion.
